2013 marks Daniel B. Jones' 30th year as a civil trial practitioner. He has a thorough and sophisticated knowledge of civil litigation. He has successfully litigated cases over the years in both Texas state courts and in Federal courts, involving business and corporate litigation, real estate and collection matters, labor law, personal injury, and family law, as well as more complex areas of the law such as corporate governance, bankruptcy litigation, federal law governing commodities brokers, and he has even worked on a death penalty appeal. His thoroughness, attention to detail, and knowledge of substantive law provides his clients with the highest level of service, designed to achieve the client's objectives without wasteful, expensive, and impractical activities. Of particular importance in his practice is assuring that the client's goals are fully met, but in a timely and affordable manner.
Mr. Jones has extensive trial and appellate experience in both state and federal courts and is a specialist in civil litigation. Successful litigation requires a variety of skills and experience, including the willingness to push aggressively for the accomplishment of your objectives, and perhaps most importantly, the ability to manage costs and attorney's fees effectively to achieve your goals in a timely manner. Mr. Jones' Board Certification by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization is a recognition of his special expertise in this area. A sampling of civil litigation matters handled by Mr. Jones over the years include:
Our Family Law practice is focused on quick, effective, and successful resolution of your domestic relations matter. Too often, we have seen clients represented by so-called family law "experts" be persuaded to engage in lengthy, expensive, and emotionally draining litigation over matters that should have been resolved quickly and without unnecessary motions, discovery, delays, and expense. While detailed discovery and motion practice are necessary in some cases, they are often not needed in achieving a successful, mutually agreeable divorce, or to resolving a child custody, or child support issue. Indeed, many clients simply cannot afford a "Cadillac" divorce, nor do they wish to spend thousands upon thousands of dollars, only to arrive at a result that could have been attained much more quickly and cheaply. Mr. Jones' extensive knowledge of Texas family law, litigation, motion practice, discovery, and business law permits him to move the client (and the other side) to a prompt and appropriate resolution, while in many cases enabling former spouses to maintain a civil relationship. If a prompt, affordable, and agreeable resolution is what you seek, contact us to discuss how we can assist you.
Having a will is one of the most basic protections you can provide for yourself and your family. At our firm, it is surpisingly affordable. In Texas, provided you have a properly drafted will (not one off the shelf from an office supply store or from a "one-size-fits all" website), probate is simple and inexpensive. Much has been made of "avoiding probate" by some in Texas who seek to sell unnecessary, inappropriate, and in some cases detrimental "trusts" or other unusual estate planning arrangements. In many cases, simply having a valid will drafted by a knowledgable attorney is all you need to protect your assets and your loved ones. If your estate does not exceed the amount exempted from federal estate taxes (for 2013, total estates valued at not more than $5.2 million will not be taxable), then you likely do not require extensive and pricey estate planning. We can, through an expertly drafted will, provide for the proper disposition of your estate in the manner you direct. Having a valid, and properly drafted will streamlines the probate process, so that it is both affordable and quick. As with any area of the law involving taxes and court involvement, consult an expert attorney to avoid mistakes and unpleasant surprises.
STAFF
Mr. Jones' practice is complemented by his experienced, friendly, and knowledgable staff. His legal assistant, Ms. Patricia Vaughn, has worked in law firms and in the real estate industry for many years. Her knowledge and expertise allow the client's costs to be minimized through delegation of tasks not requiring attorney involvement, but with close and ongoing attorney supervision.
Our bookkeeping and accounting staff provide clear, accurate, and easy-to-understand billing statements and invoices. We always have staff ready to assist you.
Civil Litigation
Mr. Jones' primary focus for 30 years has been on civil litigation. He has extensive trial experience in both state and federal courts. As litigation has become more complex and time-consuming, his thorough and expert knowledge of applicable rules, statutes, and caselaw places him in a position to advocate the client's case efficiently and successfully. When you hire our firm, you will not be "handed off" to a less experienced attorney, but will be represented by a civil trial attorney with 30 years' experience. Yet the fees you can expect to pay are surprisingly affordable, compared to larger law firms with their huge overhead.
